Steampunk Cogs, Tubes and Gauges by Mordasius Steampunk Cogs, Tubes and Gauges by Mordasius
This collection of rainmeter skins uses tubes, gauges and tooltips to display information. Most of the skins have twirling cogs or other gizmos to add a little movement to your desktop but none of them use much in the way of CPU or RAM resources. You will need the latest beta version of Rainmeter to run these skins. Get it from

The skins in this version are:

- Analog clock (left-click to change the clock face or left-click on the tube to change the colour of all tubes in all skins of the collection) - watch for the steam emission every minute.
- System info with a gauge showing overall CPU usage, individual bars for up to 8 cores and smaller gauges for RAM and SWAP memory usage.
- Network activity showing upload and download speeds along with the ping return time and wifi signal strength.
- Volume control - use the mouse scroll wheel to adjust the system volume.
- Gauges for used space on 1-4 hard drives (gratuitous pendulum thinga-me-bob for one or two disks).
- Weather skin with analog gauges for temperature, barometric pressure and wind direction. Click the forecast icon for a 72-hour forecast from the Weather Channel.
- uTorrent tracker using Lua script adapted from LuaTorrent 3.1 by JS Morley
- RSS/Atom feedreader built around Kaelri's Reader.lua script . Feed items are sorted by date/time and anything less than an hour old is bulleted. The neat little selector animation uses Kaelri's Universal Transitions script .
- The Music Player uses Poiru's NowPlaying plugin and works with a variety of media players (e.g. Windows Media Player, AIMP, Foobar2000, iTunes, MediaMonkey, MusicBee, Media Player, Classic, WinAmp, Spotify, TTplayer, VLC, Zune, etc.).
- Skin Launcher for the FeedReader, Weather, Network, Music Player and uTorrent skins.

NOTE: Click the settings icon in the two-o'clock position on the Skin Launcher to open the file where the weather code and other user settings are stored.

The collection is intended for use on widescreen resolutions and the rmskin includes a 1920x1080 version of the wallpaper shown. If you don't fancy the black/gold background to the skins you can change to a transparent background in the file.

If you have any suggestions or questions concerning the skins, you'll get a quicker response if you contact me on the Rainmeter forums .

UPDATE 18th January 2013 - Fixed an error in the uTorrent skin that prevented it working properly on some machines.
UPDATE 20th January 2013 - Added a skin variant to show CPU usage on up to 8 cores.
UPDATE 27th January 2013 - Added circular variants for the volume control and skin launcher skins.
UPDATE 8th March 2014 - Fixed another problem getting the night time forecast from

Hello there. I don't know if someone is still reading this thread but i have a question relative to the weather skin.

But first let me thank the rainmeter team and of course you Mordasius for this awesome work. It fits perfectly my steampunk stylised office.

My question is about the weather skin : i managed to change the location at will , but i have an issue with the present weather sky icon . It shows up accordingly when i change the location to a new one , but then when the weather .com site updates this icon doesn't show up anymore and when i move the cursor on top of it i've got the present weather informations but begining with a N/A where i should have the sky description.

What's strange is that the forecasted icon is working well.

Am i doing something wrong on the site ( i am not registered on the site) or should i change something in the skin ini file ?

Anyway the rest is perfect. Thanks a lot

I'm sorry but I can't replicate this problem.  All I can suggest is that you check and double-check the location code you are using and be sure you make the change in ..\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\CogsTubesGauges\resources\Configs\

ok i'll do that. I am just a bit suspicious cause i've already put 3 different codes. Perhaps there is a syntax error in what i put . the code i've got from is slightly different than the one you give in exemple .

I live in France and i put this code : FRXX0098:1:FR

i tried also without the last ":FR" but without any improvement.

Do you think this is related to the country? ( but if yes why does it work at first...?)

Nevertheless, it is a slight issue , and it doesn't shadow your work.

Thanks for your answer.

Have you ever thought of moving up the road to Marseille?   WeatherCode=FRXX0059:1 (for Marseille) works perfectly but WeatherCode=FRXX0098:1 (for Toulon) fails with the current weather condition always reported as N/A with no icon.

Damned , i'll have to move on...shame , i loved this house :)

Ok seems to be an issue with town accuracy. Well i'll try to find out a best place to Watch for. Thanks for your research about the issue.

See ya

I have a question regarding the MusicPlayer: When I put the settings to "PlayerName=CAD" it doesn't open anything at all. I've got the Plugin and VLC recognises it, so I don't know where I went wrong...
Otherwise, it's really great though!
Mordasius Featured By Owner Aug 24, 2014
The trick is to copy libcad_plugin.dll to \VLC\plugins\misc, (e.g. C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\plugins\misc) rather than VideoLAN\VLC\plugins\notify as given in the wiki.  This works for me on Windows 7 (64-bit).  Get the latest version of the plugin from ->

I did :( Deinstalled and reinstalled VLC and the plugin from your link, too, but still not working. I have no idea why...

Took awhile to get around to it, but damn, this thing is gravy.

Really really cool... but why is this in "3D-Fetish" Group?  Is this someone's sexual fetish?  Or is it Group-spamming?
